Latvians always enjoy a proper meal, especially if it’s free, but most locals choose to eat breakfast at home rather than at a restaurant. Fried bacon and eggs are always a favourite, especially scrambled, in omelettes or sunny side up, which locals call a vēršacs (bull’s eye). The more health-conscious might also choose cottage cheese and sour cream, a bowl of oatmeal or some creamy semolina with a little cinnamon, but pancakes are still king at most breakfast tables.
