This trail is a fantastic way to interact with the gorgeous nature not far from Knin. It takes adventurers to five stunning waterfalls in a 10km circular route, showcasing the region at its very best.
The starting point of this relatively easy trail is the upper viewpoint of Topoljski Buk, some 3.5km north of Knin, where the Krka River begins. The route is almost entirely flat (perfect for those allergic to gradients), and the entire thing can be traversed in four or five hours that will positively fly by.The trail only opened in winter 2024 and was an instant hit, attracting hikers and adventurers (and folks just looking for a nice walk) from all over Croatia.

The start of the trail is a unique place in its own right. We won’t claim to be experts, but can you think of anywhere else in the world where one river ends in a waterfall, resurfacing below as an entirely different river? What a way to start. Green and white markers dot the way to go, following the old Napoleon Road as it snakes in and out of nature, passing four other waterfalls of different heights and intensities along the way. Some are short and powerful, others are spread out and languid, but all play an important role on one of Croatia’s most popular (and most beautiful) new trails. The walk traverses the river, allowing visitors to get a good look at both sides of the water, both of which have plenty to offer anyone in search of Beauty.

The start of the trail is a short drive from the centre of Knin, but the more intrepid among you might even consider walking from the town. It should take about an hour, and it can qualify as a warm-up before you enjoy the spectacular surroundings of a truly underrated place. Hiking sticks are recommended, but not mandatory, and don’t forget to bring plenty of water to keep hydrated. Yes, you’ll be looking at beautiful water, but it isn’t for sipping.
