Frequent trains to Zagreb, from which you can connect to a load of other European cities. The trip to Zagreb takes about eight hours. When I go home from Split I usually travel by ICN train to Zagreb Gl. Kolodvor. I think this is train which is not longer journey about 6 hours.

I think you're wrong,there are also 2-3 daily trips to Zagreb with so-called "tilting train" which takes about 5:30 hours.Check it!
