Makarska Festivals: Music, Storytelling & Local Traditions

04 Sep 2025
Makarska’s cultural calendar is anchored by the Maestrale Festival, a season-long tribute to local heritage, art, and community. This atmospheric event fills the old town with spontaneous klapa performances, poetic evenings, and contemporary art installations, inviting visitors to connect with the deeper rhythms of Dalmatian life.
Walking Tour

One of the festival’s highlights is the Free Storytelling Tour, held every Wednesday at 19:30 until September 10. Led by the charismatic “Makarska bride” and her team, these interactive walks blend local customs, crafts, folk performances, and live makaruni pasta-making with authentic klapa singing. Tours are available in English and Polish, and participation is completely free — making it an ideal way to experience Makarska’s spirit firsthand.
As summer gives way to autumn, the cultural momentum continues. From September 10 to 14, the Vinil & Gušti Festival turns back the clock to the golden age of vinyl, with retro sounds, record fairs, and live music capturing the warm nostalgia of analog listening.

Just a week later, from September 20 to 21, the Modro i Zeleno Festival pays tribute to the iconic Milan Mladenović, blending evocative concerts and art to celebrate a musical legacy rooted in this very coastline.  Whether you're drawn by tradition, storytelling, or soulful music, Makarska offers a cultural season rich in feeling — and full of surprises.
