Tired of the same old pelmeni, borsch and beef Stroganoff combo and want to see what new Russian cuisine is all about? Then Pushkarski is certainly the place to try this without breaking the bank. New Russian cuisine is becoming more and more popular as a generation of young and daring Russian chefs begin experimenting with local/regional ingredients and different cooking methods and Pushkarski is the latest addition to this growing culinary trend. For example, as a starter we’d recommend the Far Eastern scallops with coconut cream and carrot marmalade served atop a salty meringue (550Rbl). Follow that up with one of the creative takes on traditional Russian soups like ukha (fish soup) with baked milk, borsch baked in the oven with smoked sour cream. The Murmansk halibut with a celery mousse and mullet caviar (850Rbl) is a very worthy main. You can see all this prepared in the open kitchen. The portions are very generous. In terms of interior, there aren't that many overtly Russian elements to it, although some samovars and traditional ceramics pop all over the place. Oh and the logo is a bear and your bill comes to you inside a matryoshka doll! If you like what you tried, you can always gather a group of friends and come down for a master-class where the friendly and knowledgable chefs will teach you how to make something truly unique.
