This part of the world is mad about wine, and we don’t use the word ‘mad’ lightly. Herzegovinian wine has been written about since the Middle Ages, but its development is traced in earnest to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The first recorded shipment was to Europe in 1883, and it didn’t take long for the quality of Herzegovinian wine to catch on across the continent, with gold medals soon flooding in. Wine-making is a serious point of pride for the people of Hercegovina, and many wineries around Trebinje have opened their doors (and bottles) for visitors to come and experience the magic. These are just a few of our favourites.
