On the upper level of 223 Jan Smuts Creative Hub, Berman Contemporary's group exhibition Happy Women's Month, I guess… is a powerful invocation to reflect on what this month means in South Africa and holds space for both celebration for the progress made and a longing for more. The exhibition runs from Sat Jun 28 – Sun, Aug 24, 2025.

Coordinated by artist Duduzile More, the exhibition brings together artists who use their work to traverse the layered experience of being a woman in South Africa. The experience is often fraught, and filled with contradictions and pain in a country that is still plagued by gender-based violence, despite the significant strides and achievements of progress of our country's women.

While these tensions can seem irreconcilable, the show allows space for them to sit together with the exhibition text reading, "Here, beauty and discomfort coexist. Joy and grief are not opposites. They belong in the same room."

Both powerful and quiet in its assertions, the exhibition is a beautiful and challenging attestation of womanhood in South Africa that asks viewers to both remember as well as imagine anew.

Featured artists include: Athenkosi Kwinana, Amogelang Maepa, Claire Lichtenstein, DuduBloom More, Inga Lokwe, Leila Abrahams, Puleng Mongale, and Yonela Doda.
