In partnership with RMB and Latitudes Online, Africa's largest online contemporary art marketplace, RMB Latitudes 2024 will no doubt delight with this new edition of one of Joburg's premier art experiences.
Since launching the fair, Latitudes Online has now created the Latitudes Centre for the Arts (LCA) at Shepstone Gardens, a physical, multipurpose exhibition space dedicated to the year-round promotion of artists and galleries on the continent and its diaspora in South Africa.
The fair is a destination event, transforming Shepstone Gardens into an art playground with plenty of indoor and outdoor art spaces, allowing you to explore the lavish gardens that are otherwise closed to the public (except for events and booked visits to LCA).
The three-day event features art fair booths from Africa's leading galleries and includes unique exhibition spaces designed by curators and artists, a delicious curation of food stalls and bespoke treats, local wines and fashion.
The focus of the fair is on discovering and developing new artistic talent as well as highlighting artists who are emblematic of our contemporary era. This approach has seen RMB Latitudes invite galleries from South Africa, the continent and the globe to reflect the African diaspora.
The impetus stems from Latitudes' representation of artists on its online platform fuelled by an approach to move away from the traditional way of selling art purely by gallery representation. The artist-centred event includes talks and walkabouts and visitors can dip into different art spaces, taking their time to gain an appreciation of the works featured. We can't wait!
