For Roger Ballen's solo exhibition at Standard Bank Art Gallery he takes the viewer on a retrospective trip of his photographic relationship with Johannesburg.

Ballen moved to Joburg in 1982 and he has been working out of the city ever since. His disquieting and eerie photos challenge and highlight the still lingering presence of white supremacy in our society, and with his early projects such as Platteland and Outland he quickly embedded himself in the psyche of the country.

With Roger Ballen in Johannesburg, Ballen has structured the exhibition into four parts which characterise the major themes of his photography career: people, animals, drawings and colour. Always surprising, Ballen's work provides a singular insight into the people and landscape of South Africa and his photos will linger in your mind long after you have left the gallery.
