“Thought-provoking, moving, and inspiring… the Universe on Stage simultaneously immerses the audience in the wonders of our universe and entertains with stunning visuals and score.” – Hylton Kallner, CEO Discovery Bank
From a modest start at The Bioscope at 44 Stanley, where fewer than 80 people first witnessed their fusion of science and symphony, Universe on Stage has grown into a phenomenon. Their productions now fill some of Joburg’s most iconic venues, like the Joburg Theatre and Linder Auditorium, drawing audiences of hundreds who return show after show for this unique cosmic experience.
Created by physicist Dr Luca Pontiggia and actuary and composer Yasheen Modi, Universe on Stage continues its mission to use live music, captivating visuals, and poetic narrative to tell the story of space.
Their musical journey has evolved, too. Following the recent success of Celestial Bodies, a dazzling collaboration with Joburg Ballet that wove together storytelling, music, and movement, The Black Hole Symphony marks an even bolder new chapter.
“Celestial Bodies felt like standing under a night sky and realising you’re both infinitesimal and infinite. What a breathtaking fusion of science, movement, and emotion that reminds us how beautifully connected everything truly is.” – Jessica Smith, audience member
Now, with a live 32-piece string ensemble amplifying their vision, Universe on Stage’s devoted following continues to explore their ever-expanding cultural universe.
The Black Hole Symphony is set to be their most powerful and immersive performance to date. Prepare for a mind-bending journey at the nexus of science and sound.
“Can’t wait for the next one. I don’t think there are enough words to describe the experience.” – Mish Cheri, audience member
