Mērija's Journey. The Grosvalds Family Story. Inspired by true events that were later immortalised in director Kristīne Želve's film Mērija's Journey, this interdisciplinary exhibition sheds light on this important Latvian family as well as its lesser-known member, Mērija Grosvalde, who risked life and limb by following a shipment of priceless art sent from Latvia to Nazi Germany. She endured many hardships but eventually returned to Latvia with nearly all of the works intact. The Grosvalds family, which included illustrious painter Jāzeps Grosvalds, were prominent patrons of the arts and often supported local artists and intellectuals. Mērija Grīnberga's Portrait (1913) by Jāzeps Grosvalds courtesy of the LNMM
