Day Trip from Ljubljana to Bohinj

more than a year ago
Not only is Ljubljana a magnificent city and hugely popular with foreign tourist for short breaks, but its central location makes it super-easy for those wishing to explore other parts of the country, even if time is limited. In just a few short hours and by any method of transport visitors can enjoy a day trip further afield to discover some fascinating places of interest that would otherwise remain unseen.

Lake Bohinj is the largest lake in Slovenia and is part of Triglav National Park. Its size of 4.2 km long by 1 km wide means there’s a huge range of activities to enjoy in, around - and even above - this beautiful area. Whether you enjoy adrenaline sports or seek peace and tranquility this region is a must see for visitors looking to explore Slovenia. At just 80km from Ljubljana Bohinj can easily be visited in a day, but with so much to see and do we’d highly recommend allowing more time to fully appreciate all the wonderful sights and activities.

Swimming is permitted and you’ll find many beach areas around the edge making it a perfect choice for picnics.

Oplen House
Take a fascinating trip back in time to the early 20th century and see how life was in a typical farmhouse. The house contains original furniture and equipment from the era and gives an interesting insight into how life was. The building functioned as both residential and commercial premises for working families. For more information click here.

Where better to surround yourself with all the magnificent scenery than out on the lake itself? A trip on one of the tourist boats last about one hour and is a great way to soak up the atmosphere from a different perspective. Four Courageous Men
In August 1778 four courageous men set off on a journey and made history, the local men were the first to reach the summit of Triglav. You’ll see the monument to Luka Korošec, Matija Kos, Štefan Rožič and Lovrenc Willomitze near the shore of the lake. It is said that every true Slovenian should stand on the Triglav summit once in their life, stand beside them and perhaps you will be inspired to follow in their brave footsteps.
