Cały Gaweł Cantine Bar Cafe

  ul. Dworcowa 7, Sopot      (+48) 604 17 37 17     07 Dec 2022
Set in the new train station development this place has an industrial look inside and a pleasant enough terrace outside but it’s a combination of the food and hospitality which has succeeded in drawing the people. The menu makes great use of local produce and the very friendly owner, Gaweł (ENG: Gallen) hasn’t just put his name over the door, but appears to have put his heart into the place. We loved the wooden board of starters (pickles, beef, cheeses and sauces) while the salad with roasted vegetables and ‘Kashubian’ burger were both delicious. Also of note is the breakfast menu and the homemade lemonades.

For those looking for an explanation in the name, Gaweł is the restaurant's very-friendly owner. This not-so-common Polish name means he was probably named after an old poem called 'Paweł i Gaweł' about a sort of Bert and Ernie living situation. Gaweł, a name made-up for the sake of rhyming with Paweł, was the wild, unruly one. Therefore, the wordplay of 'Cały Gaweł' suggests that this establishment is functioning without any influence from Paweł!
