COLOURS OF CHANGE. KRZYSZTOF MUSIAŁ’S COLLECTION
Sep 1 - Nov 22 2020
Pl. Zdrojowy 2, Sopot
Colours of Change gathers 170 objects representing the oeuvre of many eminent artists of this collection, albeit not all of them. At the same time, in an aim to represent the collector’s signature taste, the show at the State Gallery of Art in Sopot deliberately preserves major sets of works by individual artists such as Boznańska, Fangor and Wróblewski. While designing this exhibition, the curator was searching for artistic motives which on one hand are permanent and recurring in many works by various artists, and on the other hand show a wealth of solutions, styles and emotions accompanying the creation of self-portraits, still-lives and figurative compositions. In his early adulthood, the future collector was probably more attracted to music than to visual arts. As he recalls, the first work he bought in the early 1980s for his then non-existent collection was a watercolour by Nikifor. There is no denying that the beginnings can be very modest, but your appetite is salivated by each bite you take. The audience will once again be able to enjoy Krzysztof Musiał's openness and willingness to share his collection with art lovers. This has for years been an undeniable virtue of one of the major contemporary Polish collectors.
