While streaming technology has fundamentally changed how we approach the film-watching experience, there’s still something special about going to the movies.

The excitement and anticipation make the whole experience that little bit better, and the cinema itself plays a big part. Zagreb is home to some stunning places to watch a movie, and we’re not talking about sterile movieplexes. These spots are fabulous small halls dotted around the city, places to appreciate and support independent cinema and movies from around the world. For a memorable movie-going experience, look no further. 
 

Planet Trešnjevka is a free sci-fi film series in Trešnjevka Cultural Centre that takes audiences on a playful journey through cinema history, from iconic classics to hidden gems, through engaging expert introductions, including April screenings of Bride of Frankenstein (12 April) and The Brain That Wouldn’t Die (19 April).

ZagrebDox
is an annual international documentary film festival showcasing some of the most compelling and innovative creative documentaries from around the world. Held at Kaptol Boutique Cinema, the festival presents a rich programme of international and regional films, along with thematic selections, offering audiences a unique insight into contemporary global and local stories; it is taking place from April 19 to 26.

Drive In Kino Zagreb brings a fresh twist to the movie-going experience, inviting audiences to enjoy films from the comfort of their cars under the open sky at the Borongaj market parking. Returning for its 14th edition, the programme features six films across three spring weekends (April 25–26, May 2–3, and May 16–17), complete with food, drinks, and pre-show entertainment for a true cinema-under-the-stars atmosphere.

Kinoteka - The OG of Zagreb’s cinemas, Kinoteka has been showing films since the 1940s.
Histrionski dom - One of the capital’s cultural highlights, cinema plays a role in this multipurpose hall.
Micro Kino MaMa - a 30-seat cinema run by the Multimedijalni institut in Preradovićeva Street, hosts free Thursday screenings focused on experimental, documentary, and contemporary independent films.
Kino Forum - Located inside the Stjepan Radić student dorm, Kino Forum inspires new generations of film fans.
Scena Ribnjak - In the beautiful surroundings of Ribnjak Park, this spot has a packed program every weekend.
Dokukino Kic - In the heart of the city, Dokukino KIC is a truly unique spot dedicated to the art of documentary.
Kuc Dubrava - One of the finest movie spots in the east of Zagreb and located in the cultural centre of the same name.
NS Sesvete - Another great option in the east, this spot is located inside the Sesvete Public University.
Močvara - Better known as an urban cultural centre, Močvara also shows movies from time to time.
CZKIO Susedgrad - Movies get the projection treatment at this friendly cultural centre on the western side of the city.
VR Kino KEK - a specialised VR cinema offering immersive 360° documentary, artistic, and adventure films, where audiences experience stories through VR headsets.
