Centred on the theme of beauty and pain, the exhibition brings together works by Wim Botha, Alexis Preller, Judith Mason, Cecil Skotnes, Cecily Sash, Helmut Starcke, and Jackson Hlungwani. Pain can often come as a result of love and beauty, and the ways in which it shapes and moulds us can have surprising results, yet it is also undesirable. The exhibition explores the ways in which the artists grapple with these tensions, and ultimately find transcendence either through or in spite of their pain.
Thorned is on show at Gallery 1 at Keyes Art Mile until Fri, Oct 31.
