Popular with families, Cerkno has 70 hectares of ski slopes for beginners to experienced skiers, and has been selected as the best ski resort in Slovenia three times in a row. Although only one run is rated black (difficult), this is connected with a long red (intermediate) slope to cover the most of the mountainside. One major advantage of this centre is the modern infrastructure, two relatively new and very fast 4-seater lifts carry you to the top, where you'll find a typical alpine restaurant (self-service) with childrens' adventure park, panoramic terrace and views of Triglav (2864m) on a clear day.
For those seeking an adrenaline adventure, snowboarders and acrobatic skiers can perform their daring feats, successfully or otherwise, in the new snow-park with half-pipe. For those looking for less adrenaline and more of a physical workout and adventure, there's 1.6km of cross-country skiing track. Also for kids and beginners, there are conveyor lifts, nursery slopes and a ski school.
The lifts are accessible by car: from Kranj or Ljubljana drive to Škofja Loka, then head west through Poljane, Gorenja Vas to Hotavlje where you turn left at Lipan restaurant. After 9km you will reach Počivalo and a 6-seater chairlift station.
