What’s a pyra, you may well ask. Well pyry (plural) is a common term used by Poles to describe the inhabitants of Poznań (or Pyrlandia as it is sometimes referred) and is one openly embraced by the locals. Pyry are simply ‘potatoes’ and the term is thought to have originated in the 19th century possibly from the French ‘puree’. Local souvenirs and even local awards have since incorporated this unofficial symbol of the city, yet Pyra Bar remains one of the only genuine Potato Bars in town. The menu offers a selection of the noble potato prepared in baked, fried and casseroled forms as well as potato pancakes and, of course, chips. Our favourite is the 'Pyry z bzikiem' - a potato with cottage cheese, chives, and onion. Delicious and an absolute bargain.

Forget pizza,sushi and kebab in Poznan as in this part of the world the potato is the staple food and they sure know how to prepare it. Everything is very well prepared and should appeal to all hungry travelers, potato lover or not. And this won't kill anybody's budget. Recommend to anyone.
