Thursday Jun 8 - Thursday Jun 22       6 Jellicoe Ave, Rosebank

Described as controversial and brilliant in equal measure, Ayanda Mabulu's work draws attention to injustice, inequality and "matters of politics that affect the Black body". His paintings – often large in scale – make bold statements with their hyper-realistic imagery and intricate detail.

We think his work is extraordinary.

Born in the Eastern Cape, Mabulu is a self-taught artist whose work is featured in the collections of many international art institutions. On his work, Mabulu is quoted as saying: “My aspirations for my work are simply to engage the viewer in conversations that uplift the global Black community.”

Mabulu is based in Johannesburg. This show at Circa Gallery brings together recent works from his studio.

The exhibition opens Thu, June 8, at 18:00 with Ayanda Mabulu in conversation about his work.
