Please note that due to the ongoing global situation regarding COVID-19 the 35th Annual Gandhi Walk has been postponed until later in the year.

Mohandas 'Mahatma' Gandhi came to South Africa in 1893 as a lawyer, settling first in Durban before moving to Johannesburg, where he lived from 1903-1913. During his time in Joburg, he developed his philosophy of satyagraha or non-violent resistance which was core to the independence movement in India and which would change the world forever.

The 35th Annual Gandhi Walk celebrates the life of this icon and while also fostering a sense of unity in the community. Taking place in the streets of Joburg's Indian township of Lenasisa, there are three different distances; 3km, 6km and 12km to join in. This year's walk champions the #GWUnited4Diversity campaign which encourages embracing multiple cultural, social and ethnic groups from around Joburg.

The walk starts at Gandhi Hall, Lenasia Ext 5, 86 Impala Crescent, Lenasia.
