Le Movie Club is a monthly French movie night held at Maboneng's friendly independent cinema The Bioscope, in partnership with The Alliance Française of Johannesburg and the French Institute of South Africa. Films are screened in French with English subtitles on usually the last Thursday of every month and each month presents a new genre or Francophone country. A standard ticket costs R35, while for R80 you receive a French snack box (this ticket must be booked at least one day in advance). A selection of French wines is also on sale at the cinema.

Thu March 28 – Wallay (2017)
March's feature is an original drama directed by Swiss-Zimbabwean filmmaker Berni Goldblat. The film follows a troublemaking 13-year old boy who is caught stealing from his father and sent away from his home in France with all its Western comforts to live with extended family in rural Burkina Faso. The Hollywood Reporter describes Wallay as a 'minimalist coming of age story' driven by stand-out performances from a cast of relative newcomers, particularly by the young actor Matkan Nathan Diarra who plays the lead role, that unfolds with surprising tenderness and transformation.
