The state-run long distance service shares its name with a popular South African folk song sung by migrant workers. The train is not known for its punctuality, but is still a fun budget option for fans of long train journeys. The Cape Town route (27hrs) is the most popular and boasts spectacular scenery. Also routes to Durban (13hrs), Port Elizabeth (20hrs) and East London (20hrs). Trains leave from Park Station and have seat only and 'tourist class' (2- and 4-berth sleeper) carriages. Bedding costs extra.
