Founded by photographer Musa Nxumalo and writer Shandukani O. Mulaudzi, Studio Nxumalo is a cultural organisation that initiates and curates projects with local artists, writers and thinkers.

One of their latest projects is this group exhibition hosted at Gallery 2 in Parkwood that looks into the cloud of ideas explored by contemporary artists currently living through the pandemic in South Africa.

As Covid19 has proceeded to turn the world upside down right in front of our eyes, there is a certain fatigue that comes from the endless mortality statistics, the uncertainty of lockdowns and the persistent conspiracy theories that flood social media. In response, Nxumalo has curated an art exhibition that is a search for new ideas and ways of seeing the world and a return to mindfulness, foregrounding visual artists as thought leaders and a voice of reason in a world drowning in an overwhelming amount of information.

Featured artists include; Mfundo Mthiyane, Teresa Firmino, Abongile Sidzumo, Asanda Kupa, Kaelik Dullaart, Madikotsi “Mummy” Khumalo, Ayanda Mabulu, Nyakallo Maleke, Thonton Kabeya, Lerato Lodi, Olwethu de Vos, Malebona Maphutse, MJ Turpin, Zwelethu Machepha, and Thuriya Magadlela.
