A Raisin in the Sun

Friday Sep 17 11:00       Cnr Bolani Rd and Koma St, Jabulani, Soweto
Premiered on Broadway in 1959, Lorraine Hansberry’s drama, A Raisin in the Sun, was one of the first to bring the experiences of pre-civil rights African-American families to the stage. The story follows the struggles of Walter and the Younger family in the rundown South Side of Chicago. When Walter’s elderly mother inherits a large sum of money, the family’s sense of pride and identity is put on the line as mama decides to buy a house in a white neighbourhood.

Directed by Dr Jerry Mofokeng in partnership with the US Embassy, this production comes to the Soweto Theatre stage as part of Heritage Month. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance. To book email or call +27 11 930 7461 / +27 76 477 1893.
