In the exhibition, a Resilient Visionary: Poetic Expressions of David Koloane, the Standard Bank Gallery has put together a retrospective masterpiece about one of South Africa's most influential artists, the late David Koloane. The exhibition pays tribute to David Koloane (1938-2019) whose long artistic career carves him as a trailblazer and a critical voice that paved the way for many black South African artists. The exhibition presents "a pictorial monograph" reflective of the local art scene in the pre- and post-apartheid eras that also provides insight into Koloane's creative and intellectual journey.

Populated with images of cityscapes, jazz musicians and street life, that are brought to life through painting, drawing, printmaking and mixed media, this exhibition uncovers the social-political discourse embedded in these visual texts. Resilient Visionary is a reflective musing on modernism and urban life that also expresses what the late novelist Nadine Gordimer called "the huge oppressions, upheavals, hard-won freedoms that have been epitomised our cities’ sprawl.”
