Norwegian jazz pianist Andreas Loven merges the influences of Nordic folk and lyricism with the colourful multi-cultural nuances of Cape Town's historic District Six neighbourhood. Loven spent many years living in Cape Town, where he studied jazz at the University of Cape Town’s South African College of Music, and his exposure to African rhythms and harmonies have continued to influence his music. Loven's newest album District Six is inspired by the memory of the multi-cultural District Six community which was cruelly crushed by the apartheid policy of Forced Removals and presents a fusion between the ancient sounds of Africa and the cool poeticism of the Nordic jazz tradition.
