The Market Theatre Laboratory presents its experimental, collaborative production Babylon: Beyond Borders for a limited run at the Market Theatre's Ramolao Makhene theatre stage. The one-of-a-kind production began with community theatres in Johannesburg, London, New York and São Paolo exploring their relationship to the ancient city of Babylon, looking at issues such as land and exile, migration and language. Then each theatre company developed its own original production based on the themes that emerged.

The final product is a groundbreaking joint performance. Each theatre's unique production will be performed live in their country of origin, with the live show also simulcast to the other three countries. The audience seated at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg will witness a live performance by the Market Theatre Laboratory troupe, accompanied by live-stream projections of the performances being presented concurrently in the other three cities.
