For book lovers and collectors all roads lead to Rand Club for the annual Banned Books event that presents a collection of books that were banned in the past but are now available to read and enjoy. The event coincides with the international Books Week initiative, an annual awareness campaign that celebrates the freedom to read and draws attention to the issue of banned and challenged books in many parts of the world.

The day is filled with talks about censorship and the stories of how books are banned and unbanned. Speakers include Griffin Shea from Bridge Books (located adjacent to Rand Club), South African playwright and author Anthony Akerman and James Findlay, who has a rare and collectable bookshop inside the Rand Club and who will be sharing unusual items from his own collection.

A variety of books from Bridge Books, the James Findlay Gallery, and Rand Club Library are available for purchase at the event and breakfast and lunch are available at the Rand Club restaurant.

Entrance is free although we advise making a booking for planning purposes here.
