Braamfontein Spruit (JoziTrails)

more than a year ago
The 37km JoziTrails cycle path runs right across the northern and western suburbs following the Braamfontein Spruit from Rivonia in the north, through Blairgowrie, Delta Park, Emmarentia and onwards for several kilometres to Alberts Farm in the west. Popular with cyclists, horse riders also occasionally make use of this path, setting out from the stables located at the REEA Foundation that overlooks the spruit at Delta Park.

There are sections of the trail that have been adjusted to accommodate dog walkers and trail runners and there is clear signage marking areas where cyclists should dismount or where they may share the trail with those on foot. As the trails cover a long distance, some areas are more remote than others and safety can be an issue. The JoziTrails website lists advice on when and how to use the trails, and advises that if possible you visit in a group. From 06:00 until 18:00 there is also a dedicated team of security guards who traverse the pathways by bicycle.

Find a full trail map online at jozitrails.co.za where there is also extensive information on areas of the trails that are currently under maintenance or repair.
