Dingwall’s latest portrait series Fly by Night takes its starting point from the 2009 xenophobic riots. Creating a parallel to the fairy-tale The Ugly Duckling, Dingwall explores the quest for acceptance and being discriminated against for being different.
In No more clichés, please screenwriter and photographer Tsoku Maela confronts the clichés associated with the brown female figure, sharing the narratives of young brown women who chose to challenge the historical bias against them.
Mamelodi-born photographer Manyatsa Monyamane’s debut solo exhibition Serithi (meaning aura Sesotho) delves into the depiction of powerful black women. Using the Sesotho saying “Mme o, ona la serithi” (loosely translated to “This woman has a powerful aura”) as a starting point, Monyamane investigates the characteristics that make each of her subjects intensely unique.
Opening event Thu Mar 1 from 18:00.
