This 'art' hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to the Gautrain station, Sandton Convention Centre and shopping galore. The monochromatic interior of the downstairs reception area features a large-scale wraparound artwork by Johannesburg-born artist Mbongeni Buthelezi who uses plastic shopping bags as his medium, it's worth a visit even if you are just passing by. Artworks and impressive ceramics are featured throughout the hotel. Take the elevator up to the main reception area and lounge and you'll be transported from the busiest shopping and commercial district in Johannesburg to an elegant and intimate lounge and cafe area that leads onto an outdoor deck with a pool and sheltered seating area tucked between Sandton's skyscrapers. Truly a refuge from the hurly-burly outside the door.
Book a terrace room so you can admire a skyline view and observe the pool deck goings-on at a relaxed pace. The luxurious rooms are tastefully decorated in black and white, and apart from the standard tea and coffee station come with an impressive array of glassware, including champagne glasses. Breakfast is a sumptuous affair at Maximillien where the croissants are top notch. At night the restaurant transforms into a Cigar and Wine Bar. The hotel also offers a health spa and fitness centre.
