Bookworms and bibliophiles can find plenty of places to meet like-minded fans of the written word in Joburg. The Love Books store in Melville hosts regular book launches and discussions with local writers and critics, once a month the Troyeville Book Club invites a different well-known writer to discuss their latest works over wine and Portuguese food, David Krut Bookstore (specialising in art books) often hosts some great book launches and the Book Revue is a literary salon whose events are really worth looking out for.
The city also has a very strong poetry and spoken word scene – visit the Word n Sound open mic sessions or the Jozi House of Poetry event at the Afrikan Freedom Station (last Sun of the month) to discover Africa's hottest new poetry talent.
