Celebrating the release of Afrikaans punk rock band Fokofpolisiekar’s newest album in over 10 years, The Bioscope brings the award-winning documentary Fokofpolisiekar: Forgive Them For They Know Not What They Do back to the big screen.

Fokofpolisiekar was formed in April 2003, originally as a joke to shock the conservative Afrikaner community and to explore the idea of an Afrikaans alternative band. The members had already gained fame in local underground music circles for their individual projects New World Inside, 7th Breed and 22 Stars, but made history with their first EP As Jy Met Vuur Speel Sal Jy Brand. One of its singles Hemel op die Platteland became the first Afrikaans song to be officially playlisted on the national radio station 5FM.

Fokofpolisiekar: Forgive Them For They Know Not What They Do follows the band over four years as they challenge the stigmas and expectations of their Afrikaner heritage and change how they are perceived by the media. A film that transcends language and culture, the documentary highlights the band’s courage and passion through their fight for the right to identity, freedom of thought and the raw expression of their personal truths.

Screenings on:
Sat 14 at 16:00
Sun 15 at 15:00.
Mon Oct 16, Tue Oct 17 and Thu Oct 19 at 19:30.
