For Once | McGuffin at the Centre for the Less Good Idea in Maboneng.
As part of its one-night-only 'For Once' series of experimental performances, Arts On Main's multi-disciplinary, collaborative arts space The Centre for the Less Good Idea presents McGuffin, an original performance conceptualised by New York City-based visual artist and director Deville Cohen and starring local artists and performers Thulani Chauke, Tushrik Fredericks and Nonku PhiriThe 40-minute show examines what motivates societal and individual restlessness and our constant drive to escape reality, through the visual reimagining of the classic high-octane cinematic chase scene.

The work is named for the 'McGuffin', a traditional plot device that motivates the main character to do something, albeit often with little or no narrative explanation. Throughout the high-energy performance (with extensive use of props and video projection adding to the chaotic feel of the chase), the chase's participants come up against numerous obstacles. However the literal McGuffin remains the motivation behind the chase, used as a device to understand and challenge the values and consequences of the characters more hidden and metaphorical motivations.

There are two performances of McGuffin on Thu Feb 28: at 19:00 and at 20:30. Booking is essential, as space is limited.
