Mexico City-born painter and printmaker Georgina Gratrix is a rising star on the South African contemporary art scene, known for her provocative and playful paintings that challenge social hierarchies. For Gratrix no subject is considered sacrosanct.

Her first solo exhibition in Joburg, On Repeat, takes its name from Gratrix’s signature painting style. Using almost excessive amounts of thick oil paint, Gratrix creates an intriguing blend of colours, shapes and textures on her pattern-like canvases. Comparing her painting style to a needle on a gramophone wearing a record thin from constant repeated plays, Gratrix's works are filled with repeated motifs and symbols.

As part of the FNB JoburgArtFair 2017, the gallery is staying open until 20:00 on Fri Sep 8 and Sat Sep 9, and will also be opening on Sun Sep 10 from 10:00-17:00.
