Finding a visual language for the entangled, beautiful, messy world that we live in is actually much harder than one would think. In trying to untangle the complicated and beautiful world we live in, the artists Muofhe Manavhela, Lazi Mathebula and Seth Pimentel adapt and render streams of consciousness through the medium of painting.

In this group exhibition at Kalashnikovv Gallery in Braamfontein, these Johannesburg based multi-disciplinary artists' works articulate their personal and collective experiences. Their nuanced depictions delve into their heritage, indigenous knowledge and personal stories looking at themes as varied as fashion, digital media, mental health, gender, sexuality, and ritual.

Manavhela’s work communicates the experience of a young black woman navigating the modern South African landscape.
Lazi Mathebula distorts realism as he looks to depict the absurd intricacies of ordinary life and he weaves the textures of urban Johannesburg into his work.
Seth Pimentel experiments with merging traditional art mediums with digital art and he delves into his personal background and identity.

Join Kalashnikovv for the exhibition opening on Sat, Nov 12 from 11:00 to 14:00.
