Kicking off Joburg Ballet’s winter season, Joburg Ballet returns to the Joburg Theatre stage with Fire and Ice, a unique show that brings together classical and contemporary ballet. The show is a dynamic double bill of two contrasting ballets; Raymonda Act 3 and a special commission, Whispers of my Soul, by French-Algerian choreographer Redha.

Distilling the exquisite choreography from Russian composer Glazunov’s classic Raymonda, Raymonda Act 3 makes its Joburg debut directed by Brazilian ballet producer Guivalde de Almeida. Drawn from a full-length 19th century ballet, Raymonda's third act is a technically challenging but dazzling beautiful and lively spectacle that is a jewel of the Russian ballet oeuvre. Meanwhile the show's contemporary element, Redha's Whispers of my Soul, has been specially commissioned for the Joburg Ballet company and has been described as 'powerful, wildly imaginative, poignantly beautiful'.

As part of its ongoing commitment to make ballet as broadly accessible as possible the Joburg Ballet company has a number of special offers including half price tickets for the opening night on Friday June 29 and a matinee performance on Wednesday July 4 where all tickets are priced at R100. Furthermore a limited number of free tickets are available to students (students should present their student cards at the box office before the performance to claim tickets, subject to availability).
