share
This guided walking tour takes you through the excellent South African National Museum of Military History located in Saxonwold. The tour starts at the landmark Anglo-Boer War Memorial (designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens), originally called the Rand Regiments Memorial.

There are several other memorials honouring different arms of the formar S.A. Defence Force, a collection of vintage aircraft and various artifacts from wars in which South Africans were involved, and of course guns, tanks, armoured cars, and naval hardware. The mueum houses fascinating displays that reflect historical aspects of warfare.

We are great fans of the Joburg Heritage Foundation who do critical work in conserving Joburg heritage and highly recommend that if you are in Joburg for an extended time, you sign up for membership. See the website for details.

Tour starts at 14:00. The meeting point is on the steps of the Anglo-Boer War Memorial, facing the angel.
