Johannesburg Heritage Foundation (also often known simply as Joburg Heritage) is an advocacy organisation led by activist Flo Bird and her fellow historians, with guns blazing in the direction of those who threaten the city’s heritage. For the past three decades the foundation has sought to protect the city’s historical buildings from poor bureaucratic decisions and rapacious developers. The foundation offers a diverse range of weekly walking and bus tours that focus on the city’s history and architecture.

The Art of Africa bus tour
The Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria is an exciting new museum that promises to become a new “home to the art of Africa.” Join Wilhelm van Rensburg, art historian at leading auction house Strauss & Co who helped the museum acquire some of its works, and historian David Fleminger who is an expert on the Mapungubwe gold collection, on this insightful tour of the museum. The tour takes in the astonishing Mapungubwe gold collection, shedding light on the extraordinary ‘lost’ civilisation of Mapungubwe, which created ‘South Africa’s Crown Jewels’ nearly 1000 years ago and also explores the museum's very impressive contemporary art collection.
