#JoziWalks is a series of free walking tours initiated in May 2017 by the JDA (the Johannesburg Development Agency) in partnership with local community activists, tourism entrepreneurs, walking tour operators, and the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation.

The aim of #JoziWalks is to create connections between communities by helping people to walk, observe and connect through locally-led walks that present a personal take on the culture, social history and development of the city’s different neighbourhoods. #JoziWalks also aims to get more Joburgers out of their cars and onto the streets to walk, and to engage with their neighbours and share insights and ideas about their neighbourhoods.

The #JoziWalks2019 weekend is happening on May 19 and 20 and this year 11 walks have been chosen which explores a variety of neighbourhoods across the city. This years #JoziWalks tours include a comedy walk through Braamfontein, a booklovers tour of the Joburg City Centre, a celebration of the work of South Africa's nursing community in Soweto, a food, art and history walk in Turffontein and Women of Fire, a walk through Constitution Hill and Hillbrow led by artist Mbali Mdluli that is focused on women's history and public art.

All walks are free although prior booking is absolutely essential for each walk as space is limited. Tickets for the #JoziWalks2019 weekend are available on Quicket here.
