This annual celebration of Portuguese food and culture has been running for almost 40 years and is still going strong attracting an estimated 80,000 festivalgoers over two weekends in April. A massive celebration of all things Portuguese held in aid of the Lusito disabled association charity, there are dozens of enticing food stalls and half a dozen pop-up restaurants and bars serving up the most delicious spicy peri peri prawns, grilled chicken, chorizo, custard tarts and other traditional Portuguese dishes, plus live music, amusement rides and traditional folk dancing. Top acts on this year's live music programme include Mi Casa, Mango Groove, Lady Zamar and Rubber Duc. Come during the day to avoid the long queues.

The festival takes place at the show grounds on Cayman Road, Alwynspoort, south Joburg.
