Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra 'Voices of Home' tour (December 2025)
Wednesday Dec 10 19:30–21:30
27 St Andrews Rd, Parktown
Music has always carried South Africa’s story, from the deep traditions of jazz and choral performance to the rise of amapiano. Led by internationally renowned conductor Marin Alsop, the Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra is redefining what orchestral music can sound like. Mzansi Philharmonic is the first national orchestra created in South Africa’s democratic era, dubbed the "Springboks" of the classical music world. Founded to bring local identity into a global art form, the orchestra performs classical works alongside new compositions by South African composers.
Beyond the stage, Mzansi Philharmonic runs education and outreach programmes nationwide, including hospital concerts, school workshops, instrument loan initiatives, and mentorships for young musicians. These projects reach thousands of students each year, creating tangible pathways into professional music.
Voices of Home brings together musicians from across the provinces in a concert that celebrates South Africa’s musical roots and its evolving identity.
Led by Alsop and joined by captivating cellist Abel Selaocoe, the concert blends African soul with reimagined orchestral tradition. At its heart is Selaocoe’s Four Spirits Cello Concerto – a genre-defying work that channels ancient memory, contemporary rhythm, and the unmistakable pulse of home. The evening closes with Rachmaninov’s Symphony No. 2, renowned for its sweeping emotion and lush, unforgettable melodies – a powerful finale to a concert that speaks across generations and borders.
Don’t miss the chance to experience this powerful celebration of South African sound at Linder Auditorium on Wed, Dec 10 and Thu, Dec 11, 2025. Book your tickets now.
