Oscar Rachabane & Friends

Saxophonist and penny whistle player Oscar Rachabane is a rising star on the South African jazz scene. Holding the prestigious title of being the youngest musician to play at the legendary Kippies jazz venue (he debuted in 2004 at the age of 15, sharing the stage with his grandfather jazz legend Barney Rachabane), Rachabane comes from a family with a rich heritage of jazz dancing through their veins.

Carving out a reputation as a no-holds-barred, soulful saxophonist, Rachabane mixes together bepop and South African mbaqanga, to create a unique, idiosyncratic sound that is very much South African. At this concert Rachabane is joined on stage by several of his friends and peers from the local jazz scene.
