Richard Penn continues his exploration of ‘origins’ in this new body of work that draws on the raw data of science to depict a strange, abstract world of geometric shapes. Best known for his incredibly intricate ink drawings and oil paintings, in this new collection Penn works with pastels and raw pigments in a broad range of colours, from muted rust and grey tones to vibrant oranges, blues and yellows. Fascinated by the ways in which man seeks to make sense of the intricate repetitive patterns found in both the natural world and in mathematics and physics, Penn finds in science's quest for order and meaning, beautiful images of abstraction and wonder.
