Russell Kaplan Auctioneers' auctions are legendary affairs that unwind from a Wednesday to a Saturday just about every six weeks – with viewings taking place from 09:00–19:30 on the Wednesday – a perfect after-work stop for cheese, wine and browsing, and on Thursday and Friday from 09:30–16:30.

This is a super place to start your art collection where you can pick up everything from Walter Battiss prints to Victorian jewellery, modernist South African furniture, classic oil paintings and contemporary art by major international names. What's more with estimates for many lots starting from as little as R800 this is also a brilliant opportunity to start or grow an art collection and get a taste for collecting affordable art.

Pre-auction preview days

Russell Kaplan's auctions are notable for Kaplan's eclectic and exquisite taste. In the days just before an auction his Randburg showroom is transformed into a veritable Aladdin's Cave with a glittering collection of unusual period furniture, antiques, elaborately framed artworks, beautiful vintage jewellery and luxurious carpets all on display.

The entire collection of artworks and antiques included in the live auction goes on display to the public from February 12 to February 14.

Viewing times: Wed Feb 12 09:30–19:30 (drinks from 16:00), Thu Feb 13 and Fri Feb 14 09:30–16:30.

The household goods auction takes place on a Thursday (February 13) at 11:00 while the Art & Antiques Auction happens on a Saturday (February 15) from 09:30.
