Russell Kaplan Auctioneers' auctions are legendary affairs that unwind from a Wednesday to a Saturday just about every six weeks – with viewings taking place from 9:00-19:00 on the Wednesday (Mar 27) – a perfect after work stop for cheese, wine and browsing, and on Thursday and Friday from 09:30-16:30. The household goods auction takes place on a Thursday (Mar 28) at 11am while the Art & Antiques Auction happens on a Saturday (Mar 30).

Russell Kaplan's auctions are notable for Kaplan's eclectic and exquisite taste. In the days just before an auction his Randburg showroom is transformed into a veritable Aladdin's Cave with a glittering collection of unusual period furniture, antiques, elaborately framed artworks, beautiful vintage jewellery and luxurious carpets all on display.
Highlights of the upcoming March 30 art and antiques auction include an exquisite oil on board work by Alexis Preller, colour etchings by Salvador Dali, silkscreens, linocuts and watercolours by prominent South African artists such as Diane Victor, Norman Catherine, Colbert Mashile, Brett Murray and Robert Hodgins and a huge selection of highly collectable pottery and ceramics by names such as Tim Morris and Essias Bosch.

The Saturday March 30 live auction starts from 09:30 and includes hundreds of works of art, furniture, antiques, carpets and chandeliers.
The entire collection of artworks and antiques included in the March 30 live auction goes on display to the public from March 27 to 29. The pre-auction preview is a fantastic opportunity to admire the many rare and unique artworks on sale before they disappear into private collections and to socialise with the local art crowd.
