Artists who would like to submit their works into the running for this year's competition are recommended to take part in the Sasol New Signatures online information session on Monday June 7, outlining the competition process, hosted on the Sasol New Signatures website.
Held under the tagline 'the art of innovation' the New Signatures award is renowned for launching the careers of many exciting contemporary young artists, some of whom have gone on to international acclaim, such as 2012 winner Mohau Modisakeng who later co-led an installation at the South African pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
The finalists and winner of the award will be announced on Wednesday November 10 and all the winning works by this year's finalists go on display in a special dedicated exhibition at Pretoria Art Museum from November 11, 2021 to January 9, 2022. The winner of the Sasol New Signatures 2021 award will receive R100,000 and a solo exhibition, the runner-up R25,000 and the five 'merit award' winners R10,000 each.
HOW TO ENTER WORKS INTO SASOL NEW SIGNATURES 2021The competition is open to all South African artists aged 18+ who have not yet hosted their own solo exhibition, artists can submit up to two artworks for consideration in any artistic medium including photography, performance art, video and installations.
We highly recommend taking part in the online information session hosted on the Sasol New Signatures website on Monday June 7 for a full outline of the process of submitting works into this year's competition. The recording of the session will also be made available online.
On Tuesday September 7 and Wednesday September 8 artists are invited to submit their artworks at one of several collection points around the country in Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Gqeberha (PE), Pretoria and Polokwane.
