The weekly Sidla Sonke Sunday (We eat together Sunday) lunch is hosted by Joburg Places at the Joburg Places Hub in Newtown and is open to the public. The building was formerly home to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, along historic Diagonal Street, and also serves as the start and end for all JoburgPlaces tours.

The Sunday menu includes a variety of delicious traditional South African dishes as well as migrant dishes served in a cosy, relaxed environment that celebrates literature, history and the vibrance of city life. You are welcome to BYOB to enjoy while tasting the fantastic cuisine JoburgPlaces has to offer. Plus, kids under 12 eat free.

The menu takes care of a wide range of preferences and includes vegan items. Feast on delicious local fare such as mgwinya (vetkoek) with Cape Malay-spiced mince, Cape Malay inspired fish curry, apricot-infused lamb stew and vegan delights such as chickpea stew with red kidney beans, samp, coconut milk, turmeric and paprika, and African dombolo (steamed bread). For dessert, enjoy malva pudding with custard or Cape Malay koeksisters.

Lunch costs R300 p.p and is hosted throughout July, every Sunday. Guests can also attend an hour-long JoburgPlaces walking tour of the building and immediate surrounds at 14:00 for an additional R150 p.p. To book WhatsApp +27 82 894 5216 or email gerald@localplaces.co.za.
