Part of National Book Week, the annual South African Book Fair brings together more than 50 African authors, journalists and critics for a weekend packed with literary discussion, storytelling and, of course, book sales.

This year's fair is themed #OurStories and highlights of the extensive literary programme include: a focus on African Superheroes led by young graphic novel authors Loyiso Mkize, Bontle Senne, Clyde Beech and Benoit Knox, the African Philosophy Cafe, a panel discussion on the complex issue of land dispossession in South Africa, a Celebration of Giants event in remembrance of the centenaries of Albertina Sisulu and Nelson Mandela, a special focus on feminism and the global feminist discourse and an exploration of the world of political, corporate and underworld crime in South Africa led by journalists Mandy Wiener, Anneliese Burgess and Pieter-Louis Myburgh. Other highlights include culinary talks and demonstrations with leading local chefs, poetry readings, talks by leading local authors on script writing, self-publishing and overcoming adversity and multi-lingual African storytelling for children and adults.

Also on the schedule is a special hop on, hop off literary bus tour that sees local authors Terry Shakinovsky, Harriet Perlman and Nechama Brodie taking audiences on a journey through Joburg's historical, political, cultural and culinary sites and a charming stage production of the children's favourite The Little Prince.
