The city comes alive with music, and there’s no better way to spend a golden afternoon than at the Sunset Music Series. Staged at the breathtaking Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden in Roodepoort, this much-loved concert series pairs lush lawns and waterfall views with world-class performances that span genres. This year’s lineup is packed with legends, rising stars, and crowd favourites – cementing this series as a must-attend event.

Sun, Sep 14: Mango Groove, Ross Learmonth, and Majozi 

The Sunset Music Series kicks off with icons Mango Groove in celebration of their 40th anniversary. It’s been five years since they last played Joburg, and fans can expect an unforgettable set filled with nostalgia, big hits like Special Star, and plenty of dancing. They’re joined by Ross Learmonth and Majozi for an afternoon that blends old-school grooves with fresh South African sounds. Book here.

Sat, Oct 11: Mi Casa

The gardens transform into an open-air dance floor as Joburg’s own, Mi Casa, headline. Known for their soulful vocals, jazzy trumpet riffs, and infectious house beats, the trio never fails to get the crowd moving. With the longer sun-filled afternoons and jacaranda season in full swing, you’ll want to arrive early, find your spot, and soak it all in. Book here.

Sat, Oct 25: Zoë Modiga, Jaziel Brothers, Paul Hanmer, McCoy Mrubata, and Rorisang Sechele

Rich, smooth, and perfect for a picnic, this lineup brings some of South Africa's best jazz and R&B to the stage. From Zoë Modiga’s honey-toned voice to the Jaziel Brothers’ harmonies and legends like Paul Hanmer and McCoy Mrubata, it’s a feast for the ears. Bless your ears with rising star Rorisang Sechele, who adds a fresh edge. Expect the kind of vocals and melodies that turn the gardens into a sanctuary. Book here.

Sun, Oct 26: Kurt Darren, Spoegwolf, and Aya Nixon

The series wraps up with Afrikaans favourites, headlined by nine-time SAMA winner Kurt Darren, alongside stadium rockers, Spoegwolf and Pretoria’s fast-rising songstress Aya Nixon. It’s set to be a powerhouse afternoon of sing-alongs and big performances. Book here.

Note: Concerts typically run from 12:00 – 17:00 (12:30 – 17:30 on 14 September). Bring your picnic basket, blanket, and camping chairs, but leave cooler boxes, glass bottles, gazebos, and tables at home. Small umbrellas are allowed, but please be mindful of your fellow concert-goers' views. Kids under five get in free, and tickets can be booked online here
